Women to the Wine Farm….

posted in Personal 11.04.2008

Sometimes you need a day to relax, getaway from your daily routine, and forget about the troubles of the world. In mid October, during the middle of the week, four of my girl friends and I loaded up into a red mustangcovertableand headed for the North Georgia mountains, our destinationWolf Mountain Winery. It was our time to enjoy the beautiful early fall weather just as yellow and red started to stain the tips of the tree tops. For one perfect day we forgot about editing photos and all the negativity in the news and focused on friendship and laughter. Wegossiped, we talked, laughed, drank wine, we sang and cried a few silly tears. And along the way we took a few photos….

red heals + red mustang = fun

We all wore scarves or hats and big sunglasses and felt fabulous!

I love these shots of us at the gas station all dressed up being silly and eating cookies.

Jodi, my favorite cookie monster

When you’re all dressed up and having a girls trip there is always time for fun and an impromptu photo shoot… even in the parking lot of a gas station.

Renee,Laura, Jodi and Erin (Shahrzad is on the other side of the lens)

After a long ride with the top downwe stop to freshen up.

We arrive to Wolf Mountain too early for our lunch time reservation at the cafe… but being the well prepared girls that we are, we head to a gazebo in the vineyards to make mimosas and snacks.

Laura demonstrates how to pop a champagne bottle. There is always time to learn.

After snacks and few mimosas we head to the vineyard’s cafe for lunch. It’s open Thursday through Sunday if any one’s interested.

The wine was surprisingly good.

I try on Shahrzad’s hat… too cute.

Since the two professional photographers (Laura and I) had the day off Shahrzad assists a nearby couple with a photo.

Beauty pit stop.
“Persian girls are born with a bottle of eye liner in their hands,” Shahrzad.

Our view of the beautiful north Georgia mountains.

After lunch we headed back to the vineyard for a nap… and dessert. If you haven’t noticed the trend yet… we love to eat!

We were told that the netting over the vines are to protect the fruit from birds.

sexy!!

We don’t often enough lay down to look at the sky

I love this photo of Erin napping next to the baguette.

Heading home…

The wildflowers between the lanes of 400 were too good to pass up… so we stopped for a photo shoot.

… our best goofy model poses.

I love this image of Jodi.

The evening sky as we enter Atlanta. I love the lone set of headlights on the lower left corner of the image.

Looking forward to the next trip. Thanks for a beautiful day girls!!!

Faith and Friendship

posted in On Assignment 07.06.2008

The images below, from a weekly religion assignment, were taken at Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta. The Sunday morning that I shot these images the church was welcoming their new pastor, Rev. Dr. Timothy Boddie. Boddie is one of only 6 pastors to preside at the church.

Friendship was organized in 1866 and is Atlanta’s first black Baptist independent congregation. Originally the church could not buy property and first worshipped in a boxcar.

The light in the church is amazing! Below are my favorite images.

I love this look of being caught…

I love the next two images of this sleeping girl…. the glasses on her forehead, her body language and the light really make this image special (for me at least).

Georges

posted in Food, On Assignment 07.06.2008

Ah…comfort food! I love any restaurant that makes me feel a little nostalgic and where I can comfortably lick my fingers. These images are from a cuisine assignment shot at Georges Grill and BBQ.

Growing up my grandmother would make large bubbling vats of smokey brunswick stew. I remember licking my lips, as she placed all of the ingredients into the massive pot on the stove.
I wish I knew her recipe, though I don’t think she could tell me because it was never made the same way twice or with any concern for measurement… but always delicious. I’ve sampled many different versions of the stew but of course hers is always the best (sorry George).

Butterflies and a Boy

posted in On Assignment 07.06.2008

What’s not to like about butterflies? I recently shot a fundraiser at the Dunwoody Nature Center called Monarchs and Margaritas. During the event patrons had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the colorful insects, provided by Greathouse Butterfly Farm, in a special tent containing vibrant flowers.

Below I’ve posted a few of my favorite images.

A woman and a butterfly make eye contact…

I couldn’t resist posting this photo from another recent assignment as well. This image is from a children’s music camp where kids are introduced to a plethora of instruments. This little boy looks so angelic with the pint sized harp he’s plucking. I love the one little finger pulling the string with curiosity.

Anika and Nick

posted in Wedding 05.30.2008

What a fun wedding! It was evident that everyone at this couple’s wedding really enjoyed themselves.

I really love this image of the groom and his father before the ceremony.

Anika had so many beautiful emotions during the ceremony, very sweet, very touching.

I love this photo of Nick’s joyful mother right after the ceremony!

This is my favorite image of the couple!

I love the toasts at weddings and seeing the different expressions that register on the couples face. She looks amused, He looks a little embarrassed

I love Anika’s expression in this one!

Of course none of the guys wanted to catch the garter.

I’m not sure how this baby could sleep with all of the loud music but he was just completely peaceful.

Pat and Jerry had such a special wedding day filled to the brim with love, laughter, and family!

It was so funny to watch Pat’s granddaughter getting her hair done before the ceremony because she made so many funny faces during the process.

She’s not so sure about all of this.

Pat shares a moment with her youngest son.

This little girl gave her mother such a hard time about getting ready to take formal shots.

Pat’s grandson looks like such a serious adult in this image.

I love this mother and son’s puckered lips and his disheveled tuxedo, so cute!

Ashley and Heath

posted in Wedding 05.10.2008

Ashley and Heath were married at The Gardens at Great Oaks in Roswell.
I love that Ashley chose to wear her mother’s wedding dress. Little things like this really make a wedding special.

I love the wistful expression of Ashley’s mother in the background trying to hold back the tears.

There was a really strong bond between Ashley and her mother and sister. They had the best time hanging out together and spying on guests before the ceremony.

Ashley’s dad sees her for the first time.

I love this moment between a grandfather and granddaughter. They really enjoyed each others company and conversation.

I find this image so hysterical.

Ashley’s sister got really emotional during the toast, so touching.

All of the dancing shoes came off by the end of the night.

This couple was a joy to work with and my first wedding of 2008. While it might have been raining and cloudy the entire day it didn’t dampen the couples spirit or Lila’s smile!

Everyone got a kick out of Lila’s “chicken cutlets!”

Lila’s mom takes a look at her fake boobs…

…And they share a laugh.

She puts on the dress and officially becomes a bride!

Lila walks down the aisle where she meets Nathan before the ceremony.

I love this moment between the couple… overcome with happiness. Their height difference makes this couple soo sweet!

I love the carefree happiness that registers on Lila’s face.

Every bride needs a bag of Fritos before the ceremony. Nathan watches his bride to be. LOL.

One of the perks of the couple meeting before the ceremony are the foot rubs.

A moment between Lila and her father just before they walk down the aisle.

Nathan helps Lila from the car at a rainy reception.

This is my favorite image from my assistant Todd McQueen. A beautiful moment captured of Lila kissing her mother goodbye as the couple leaves the reception.

Hats and Horses

posted in Personal 04.18.2008

There is nothing better than a beautiful spring day in north Georgia complete with beautiful hats and horses. Last saturday 3 of my girlfriends and I drove to Kingston Downs to enjoy the 43rd annual Atlanta Steeplechase. The sprawling property nestled along the Etowah River is awash in a meadow of silvery green grass and stoic oak trees which is enough for my senses alone. Add in the 70+ degree weather and cool breeze along with a picnic and more hats than my eyes can count and of course the amazing horses and you have one of my perfect days of 2008.

I first went to the event several years ago covering it for a local newspaper I was working for and ever sense I have been eager to return. This year three of my fabulous girlfriends went to the event with me, one of which is another photographer, Laura Stone. Laura and I decided to bring one camera and take turns shooting which was a great adventure. I love having another photographer around because while I love being behind the lens I must admit that it’s a great feeling to be in front of it as well. Especially when a talented peer and friend has the reigns.

One of the first things you notice at Kingston Downs are the tents that circle the track.

Everyone at the event has a great time dressing. Women wear beautiful outfits and often outrageous hats and many of the men are decked out in sear sucker suits. Below are some of the wackiest pants we noticed. Where exactly does a grown man go to buy green and blue pants with horses parading all over the cloth? I truly love it though!

My childhood friend, Shahrzad, and I pause to take in a race. Aren’t we fabulous!

description

I love the grass when it is caught in a breeze. Laura shows us here trudging through it on the way to our perch to view the races.

description

description

I love this image Laura captured of a little girl eating a BBQ sandwich. I love how the sandwich covers her face and her little pink fingernails. She looks very girlie and at the same time tom boyish with the cowboy hat.

Laura awaits the next race.

description

description

I love that women will wear high heals even with mudd everywhere! Anything to stay fabulous!

Dogs enjoy the race to.

Who says men can’t wear feather hats at horse races.

description

Jodi is always elegant. And day dreaming here.

description

It’s Shahrzad’s nap time.

description

description

description

description

I really enjoyed shooting the woman in the next few photos. She really got into the races and I love how the sash on her hat is swept up into the breeze.
The first shot shows her holding onto her hat as the horses pass in the first leg of the race while the next few show her anticipating the horses rounding the final stretch.

description

description

For some reason Shahrzad loves little petting zoos. And it was her lucky day. I loved her reaction when she saw the camel, “My people.” What a goof ball.

description

When we were leaving we saw this fantastic old car parked near us. I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of Shahrzad since her dress matched the color so well.

description

I love this final shot Laura took of the car pulling away.

Looking forward to the second Saturday of April 2009!

Last week I did a commercial product shoot and portrait session for Iwi Fresh owner Yolanda Owens. Iwi Fresh is a wonderful local Atlanta business that makes natural gourmet skin care products from fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Yolanda was a wonderful client to work with and represents her product well. Her skin is gorgeous and I vividly remember meeting her for the first time because of her warm friendly smile and her lovely scent, Will You Be Mine chocolate and cherry body oil. Delicious!

The following are product shots and portraits taken during our two day shoot. Enjoy the photos and place your orders at www.iwifresh.com

The first set of portraits were taken at The Globe restaurant in Atlanta.
